Our client had recently returned to the UK and was searching for teaching roles however due to the current pandemic, job roles were very limited so our client posted their CV portal so recruiters could get in touch. From this, a recruitment company contacted our client and set him up with short term work.

In the lead up to the beginning this new role, the recruitment company became unresponsive. Therefore, on the clients start date, the employer confirmed that they had no record of our client starting. However, after further conversations, it was confirmed that our client’s CV and personal documentation such as passport, drivers license and National Insurance number, was disclosed to the new employee in error.

The recruitment company confirmed that this was the case to the new employer, however it was never disclosed to our client that for one he did not have a job secured and secondly the breach that had occurred.

Following the supposed start date, our client was left with no job and had no choice but to claim benefits in order to be able to support himself during this time. This was already a stressful time as the pandemic had just begun which led to further uncertainty for our client so with no resolution to his recent breach he decided to seek legal advice.

Angelus law were instructed in July and settled the GDPR claim in question for a sum of £1,500.
